Extracurricular Ball School programmes are currently being offered at about 50 primary schools in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region – that is 88 courses with about 1000 participants.

Ball School lessons are school matters, but respective schools are supported by the Ball School in terms of organisation and implementation. Furthermore, schools cooperating with Ball School Heidelberg are allowed to use the Ball School’s logo and are provided with materials such as balls and rackets/sticks. The teachers of a cooperating school may take the Ball School’s offer of basic and advanced training. The lessons are carried out by one of the Ball School trainers or a teacher of the respective school who has already completed a specific training of Ball School Heidelberg. One lesson period is 45 minutes and contains age-related games and exercises according to the Ball School’s concept.

All Ball School courses start after the autumn holidays and end with the beginning of the summer holidays. Each child signed in in one of the courses will get a free T-shirt of Ball School Heidelberg within the first lessons.

Talent Development

Within our primary schools project we integrated the so called talent development project. After children have participated in the general Ball School programmes during first and second class, they are offered further Ball School courses in third and fourth class. These aim at a partial specialisation in throwing-, goal scoring and set back games with a view to ensuring the children a seamless transition to club sports.

Traditionally, the Ball School Heidelberg’s Talent Day takes place towards the end of each school year. Hereto, the ca. 70-90 most talented children are invited to a sports day where they can try out all the different sports offered by the sport clubs which are part of the talent development project. These include TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (football), USC Heidelberg (basketball), Rhein-Neckar Löwen (handball), Racket Center Nussloch (tennis), Mannheimer Hockey Club (field hockey), Adler Mannheim (ice hockey) and Golfclub St. Leon Rot (golf).

Dues

As Ball School Heidelberg is a non-profit project, we can, thanks to the involvement of the Dietmar-Hopp- and Manfred-Lautenschläger-Foundation, offer our programmes to very moderate prices. The fees for a whole school year amount to only 65 Euros per child. The dues are used to finance our trained staff, which conducts the courses. Moreover, each child receives a T-shirt of Ball School Heidelberg. The dues will be paid using debit entries after the beginning of the courses.
